Ben Thompson, III, MD, is a board certified, fellowship trained pulmonary and critical care physician with Memorial Medical Group. Dr. Thompson provides comprehensive care and treatment for a variety of conditions of the chest and lungs including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)which is a specialized form of bronchoscopy that is used to evaluate enlarged lymph nodes in the chest. Pulmonary specialists use EBUS to perform a technique known as transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA), which allows sampling of tissue from lymph nodes. These samples can be used for diagnosing and staging lung cancer, detecting infections, and identifying inflammatory diseases that affect the lungs, such as Sarcoidosis.
He serves on multiple medical committees of Lake Charles Memorial Health System and is the medical director of the ICU as well as being president of the medical staff in 2014.
