Physician Bio

In addition to being part of the team of cardiologists with Memorial Medical Group, Dr. Thompson also serves as Director of Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterization at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. Previously, he was with Cardiovascular Specialists of Southwest Louisiana and The Heart Associates. He has also worked as a clinical investigator in hypercholesterolemia trials.

In 2016, Dr. Thompson received certification for use of the Diamondback 360 Coronary Orbital Atherectomy System. The OAS is a device used for the treatment of a severely calcified narrowing of a coronary artery. The OAS is a system intended to facilitate stent delivery. The System is used in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who are acceptable candidates stenting due to severely calcified coronary artery lesions that have not been previously treated.

The Diamondback 360® Coronary Orbital Atherectomy System utilizes a diamond-coated 1.25mm Crown to offer safe outcomes:

  • Differential sanding allows healthy tissue to flex away.
  • Reduces coronary plaque enabling successful stent deployment.
  • Minuscule particulates produced don’t require embolic protection.
  • Continuous perfusion of saline and blood during orbit.
